About this artwork:

‘Binnenkort te Zien’ was commissioned as an art project by the local government in Oss, the Netherlands. The project was exhibited in a nature area called Herperduin, which was disrupted at that time due to a forest transformation project. Protests and demonstrations led by the locals were fierce because vast amounts of trees were cut down. The social movement inspired Alice to create a triptych illustrating the benefits of the forest transformation. The three pieces of artwork symbolize the downfall, the rebirth and the return to an Arcadian state. The use of symbolic figures such as Angels of Death, Mother Nature, gnomes and fairies is heavily influenced by Hiëronymus Bosch’s paintings, who hails from a city near Oss. Each image was exhibited in the Herperduin forest on a 3 meters x 4 meters screen.

Scene 1

Three Angles of Death fly  out of the sky, leaving behind a trace of destruction.  On the floor we see animals and gnomes, trying to protect their beloved forest. A fairy joins their fight, using a catapult to fire pine cones towards the Angels of Death. Another fairy has been brought down and tries, scared as hell, to protect herself against all upcoming devastation.

Scene 2

Mother Nature appears in the scene. Gnomes, fairies and animals are giving her a hand of help to bring the forest back to life. One of the gnomes is still not trusting the situation while anther gnomes peacefully enjoys an apple amidst the graves that remind the recent destruction.

Scene 3

Within the arcadic forest, Mother Nature holds a little chick, symbolizing new life. Mother Nature is surrounded by gnomes, fairies and animals, of which a fox serves her a cup of tea.
